E-Update – November 2009
Dear Friends and Neighbours,
I thought I would take this opportunity to quickly update you on the results from our Parkview Hills Community Association Annual General Meeting, which took place last Thursday evening.
Our meeting was well attended by the community with nearly 50 residents in attendance. My thanks to all those that came out to support the association and also renew their membership for 2010.
We had an actual election for the 15 positions on the Board of Directors following a detailed President’s and Treasurer’s Report, and I am pleased to introduce the Parkview Hills Community Association Board of Directors.

My thanks to all those who stood for election. Clearly the great turnout and interest demonstrated the fact that we have many caring residents in our community. I want to acknowledge and pay a special thank you to three of our neighbours – MPP Michael Prue who served as the Elections Chair and also to former East York Councillors Norm Crone and Bob Willis for their help in running the election.
After the election, the new board met and selected the following four individuals who will serve as Officers of the PHCA Board.
Justin Van Dette – President
John Pasalis – Vice President
Nick Georgakopoulos – Treasurer
Bill Petropoulos – Secretary
I am honoured to have the continued confidence of my colleagues and I look forward to working with them as we continue to look out for the best interests of our entire community. Our Councillor, Janet Davis, also attended the meeting and specifically informed us that she’s been working on the reconstruction of the Alder Road stairs into Taylor Creek Park that the PHCA brought to her attention last March.

COMMUNITY ISSUES UPDATE
In addition to the special events that we organize, the PHCA Board of Directors has been meeting on a regular
basis to discuss a number of issues that matter to our community. Here’s an update on some topics, which
have appeared on our agendas.
Duncan C. Little Parkette Signage
The signage at the parkette located at the corner of
Woodbine Heights and St. Clair Ave. E. has been
missing for years. We hope to see a sign installed in the
near future. The parkette was named after the longest
serving employee with the Borough of East York.
St. Clair Avenue East Resurfacing
We have been in contact with our Councillor and
requested that St. Clair Ave. E in our neighbourhood be
considered for resurfacing in the near future. City staff
is reviewing this request. We received a number of
complaints from residents who fine the street in very
poor condition.
Parkview Gardens Parkette
We continue to work with our Councillor and bring
forward items of concern. The lighting should be
improved shortly on the stone wall and plans to add
some more trees are being reviewed. The Parkette was
recently given a thorough cleanup and we hope the city
will continue this on a regular basis. Plans are being
reviewed to request a bus shelter or bench at the stop
located at the end of Doris Drive. Proper recognition of
those who were involved in the creation of the parkette
is still being worked on. Our hope is to have a plaque
erected in the near future. Local resident and former
Councillor Bob Willis has offered his help with this
project.
Dead Trees in our Community
The city has recently removed the dead trees on the
Northdale Blvd island. Plans to plant more trees there
and in the piece of land next to the stairs entering
Taylor Creek Park off of Alder Road are being
reviewed.
Oasis Bins in our Community
The two Oasis bins in our community have become an
open dumping ground for broken chairs, sofas and
other unwanted items. Complaints have been brought
to our attention and we have been in contact with our
Councillor who has been in touch with by-law
enforcement regarding the removal of the bins.
We are happy to report that the Bin on Hollinger has been moved from the corner

The PHCA has signed on to the initiative 1Toronto.ca 1Toronto.ca is a community initiative that was started by Toronto-Centre MPP George Smitherman that seeks to encourage Torontonians to help keep the city beautiful in the midst of the current labour dispute. 1Toronto.ca will be a resource for citizens to locate and document cleaning of garbage ‘hot spots’ in the city.
The PHCA will be watching closely to see what needs attention. We have immediately identified the garbage bins located on St. Clair Ave. E. in front of Presteign Heights School and at the Parkview Gardens Parkette and will be emptying these when they need it.
Lets all work Toghether to keep our community Clean!

Re: Parkview Hills Community Association 19th Annual Picnic – Sunday, June 21, 2009
The Parkview Hills Community Association (PHCA) is planning its nineteenth Annual Picnic, which will take place on Sunday, June 21st at Presteign Heights School, 2570 St. Clair Ave. E. from 12:00pm to 4:00pm.
As President, I am writing to ask for your support by making a financial contribution or donating an item for our popular silent auction to support our event.
Through this exciting one-day event, the PHCA offers young and old alike an opportunity to enjoy an afternoon of fun, food, entertainment and a chance to for our residents to get to know one-another. In addition, proceeds raised are directed to the Toronto East General Hospital Foundation, Presteign Heights School and the Presteign-Woodbine United Church.
Our event attracts numerous residents and neighbours and continues to have the assistance and support of the Toronto Police Service and Toronto Fire Services.
We hope you will be able to join us as a supporter of our event again this year. To give you an idea of some of our new challenges, the PHCA has had to incur an increased permit fee for the use of the schoolyard over the years. To compare, the PHCA paid $363.89 in 2002, and this year, our fee totals $735.00.
We would appreciate your assistance and support for this worthwhile cause. Your gift will be acknowledged publicly at the event and subsequently in our newsletter, which is distributed to over 950 homes and on our website at www.parkviewhills.ca
Kindly call me at your convenience to discuss your possible donation to what will be another very successful event. Thank you, in advance, for your consideration.

There has been a few close calls on the crosswalk to the school during morning , lunch and after school commutes.
Many motorists are parking to close to the crosswalk when dropping of thier children and causing a very serious safety concern. Visibility is hindered and passing motorists do not see the children when they are crossing. Add the fact that the lights do not work very well. This has become a concern for the students safety.
Measures have been taken by calling parking enforcement they cannot patrol every day. The city has refused providing a crossing guard since they deem it not “high traffic enough”
We understand that parking is limited in front of the school but please respect the crosswalk . Sometimes a few minutes is all it takes for a accident.
lets police ourselves with common sense and keep our children safe. Please park in designated spots or outside the spots designated for the cross walkand slow down around the school.
Thank you
